The side effects observed with the use of Voltaren Emulgel Extra Strength are similar to those observed with the topical form of ibuprofen. These side effects are therefore not observed with the topical form of NSAIDs and other analgesic agents.
The most commonly reported adverse reactions (≥1%) in patients treated with topical NSAIDs are headache, dyspepsia, dysbacteriuria, rash, fever, and peripheral neuropathy.
More frequent, severe, or life-threatening adverse reactions (≥1%) have been reported in patients treated with topical diclofenac sodium in a placebo-controlled clinical trial. These were: headache, dizziness, malaise, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, peripheral neuropathy, neuro tenderness, myalgia, myalgia with nausea and vomiting, peripheral neuropathy with eosinophilia, eosinophil cytopenia, eosinophil lupus-like syndrome, and acute renal failure.
The most frequently reported allergic reactions to diclofenac sodium are urticaria, itching, and rash.
